The fact that the Prime Minister is a renowned economist has not kept the country from turning into an economic mess. Those holding responsible positions have cited global reasons for the crisis as the problems keep mounting and the situation in all economic sectors turns grim. For the entire financial year, the GDP may even go lower than 4 percent.
Despite public pressure over the issue of black money, Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister, took a safe path over the issue without giving any concrete assurance. Some firm steps were expected in the union budget of coming fiscal but he did nothing except some time buying announcements. Although, he expressed concern over the issue but instead of taking any quick steps, he preferred to take a long way with no assurance over the expected result of getting stashed money back.
Despite tall claims about positive impact of globalization, India is still considered as a nation of farmers and about 70 percent of its population still relies on agriculture for livelihood. A section of economists says repeatedly that the contribution of this sector in GDP is coming down day by day. However, Congress led UPA government pretends to be concerned about the condition of farmers and agriculture but in terms of policy the government appears to be anti farmer.
A number of economists and those persons who understand the economy and policies are taking about the third depression. And the most important thing is, recent G-20 meet decisions also indicate towards this coming disaster. Recessions are common in an economy but depressions are rare. We have faced the recession of 2008-09. The coming depression will be third one after the depressions of 1873 and 1929-31.
Mr. Prime Minister loves to sing the song of better GDP numbers. Manmohan Singh also speaks about booming share market. He projects these things as sign of development of India. But is it true? What about those, who are living in remote villages of country? What about farmers? They are still comitting suicide. It means the parameters of Mr. PM for development are not benefitting common man and farmers. But his government and party always talks about common man. It seems that government is playing for a privileged section of society and their policies are not addressing a larger section of society. So, it’s a kind of deception with common man.
